Shanghai Long-Distance Bus Station, Asia's biggest bus terminal, will be put into operation before January 25, the day when the peak Spring Festival travel season kicks off. Neighboring the Shanghai Railway Station, the bus station will handle 1,200 routes and has the capacity to transport 20,000 people a day.

* On New Year's Eve, a bell-tolling celebration was held at Baohua Temple, located in Zhabei District. Some 108 people braved frigid winds and lined up to strike the huge bronze bell in the temple, hoping to lure good luck in the new year.
