Malaysia to host International Rubber Conference

Malaysia, the world's third largest rubber producer, will host
International Rubber Conference and Exhibition (IRC 2008) in Kuala Lumpur, the
Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) announced in Kuala Lumpur today. The IRC 2008,
jointly organized by MRB and London-based International Rubber Conference
Organization (IRCO), will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center from
Oct. 20 to 23, 2008. The Conference alone is expected to attract more than
500 delegates from more than 15 countries worldwide, MRB Director- General
Kamarul Baharain said. The IRC 2008 Conference will feature topical issues in
rubber physics and engineering, computer simulation, advanced manufacturing
techniques and processes, environment recycling and industrial ecology,
nanotechnology and several latest technological advancements applicable to the
entire rubber industry. In conjunction with the IRC 2008, an international
exhibition, IRC Expo 2008 and special short courses will be held. On the IRC
Expo 2008, the highly specialized trade industry showcase would feature 60
companies from 20 countries with limited exhibition occupancy of close to 70
booths, Kamarul said. Key exhibits at the IRC Expo 2008 include tyres
technologies, rubber materials and additives, testing equipment and instruments,
rubber machinery and processes, manufactured rubber products. In 2007, the
International Rubber Conference was held in Cleveland, United
States. Malaysia is currently the world's third largest supplier of natural
rubber with 1.20 million tons or 12.1 percent of total global supply, after
Thailand and Indonesia, Kamarul said. "Global demand for natural rubber in
2007 was about 9.7 million tons and this is expected to increase to 14 million
tons by 2020," he added.
