EC places anti-dumping duty on Vietnamese fluorescent lamps
23/5/2005 14:57

The European Commission has just imposed an anti-dumping duty of 66.1 percent on imports of electronic compact fluorescent discharge lamps from Vietnam.
Before being subject to the anti-dumping tax, Vietnamese fluorescent lamp producers enjoyed tax rates of 5-20 percent according lamp types, local newspaper Youth reported Monday.
Seven local lamp producers either refused to undergo EC inspection or failed to prove their products' origins, while only the Rang Dong Lamps and Thermos Company proved that all of its fluorescent lamps exported to the European Union (EU) in 2004 were directly produced at its factory.
The company, which exported 350,000 fluorescent lamps to the EU last year, has planned to reap US$5 million from shipping the products to the market this year. The application of the anti- dumping duty will make the target hard to attain, the report said.
