A report released by the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration gave the green light to specific brands of turbot fish in the city¡¯s market for the coming Spring Festival, Shanghai Labor Daily reported today.

A new batch of turbot fish has anti-counterfeit brands attached. The ellipse-shaped nameplate tells the brand and origin of the turbot fish on one side. The other side provides the product's ID code and anti-counterfeit number, which is similar to the tags on Yangcheng-Lake crabs. Citizens can get detailed information about each turbot fish they purchase by sending a short message to the company using the numbers provided on the nameplate.

To ensure the health of citizens, Shanghai and Shandong¡¯s aquatic breeding associations have reached an agreement to strictly supervise the fish transported to Shanghai. The distributors and suppliers also signed agreements that they will accept inspections.

The means of transportation has changed from water to air transport. Therefore, the wholesale price will double to 120 yuan (US$15.4) a kilogram.

Suppliers of turbot fish can take a long breath after being troubled by the cancer-causing turbot scandal that has plagued the city. So now, they are busy preparing for the selling peak.

The turbot fish market was halted after unqualified turbot fish were found in many markets, so the sales greatly reduced. Improvement in the market is still going to take some time since the reappearance of the turbot fish has just begun, said a manager of Tianyuan Aquaculture Company of Yantai, Shandong province.
