South Korea's LG Electronics Inc. said yesterday that it has signed a
three-year sponsorship agreement with Fulham FC, a football club in England's
Premier League.
Under the agreement, which was signed in London on Friday,
LG Electronics said that it would be allowed to put its logo on jerseys of
Fulham footballers for three years beginning next month.
The agreement was regarded as LG's recent effort to step up its marketing
drive in Britain. The company said that its monthly sales there exceeded US$100
million last year.
Fulham was established in 1876 and set its main stadium in London. It has
more than 150,000 club members and hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide, LG
Electronics said.
The sponsorship deal comes after Samsung Electronics Co, another South Korean
leading electronics company, signed a similar contract with Chelsea in 2005. LG
Electronics did not elaborate on the financial terms of the contract.
