First Airbus A380 commercial flight works "like clock": engineer

Airbus A380 first commercial flight by Singapore Airlines to the Australian city of Sydney "worked like a clock," A380 test flight engineer Claude Lelaie said yesterday.
"All parameters were normal on departure and on arrival, the plane worked like a clock with cruising performances and fuel consumption as planned," he said.
"During the seven and a half hours flight from Singapore to Sydney, we did not even reach the limits of the plane, the only trivial task we encountered was a slight false smoke alarm," Lelaie said, adding he was "confident in the plane's viability after 5,000 hours of test flight without any incident."
"Singapore Airlines received the A380 during the last two test flights before the official delivery on October 15," he said.
The new Airbus product security chief said the group had "put in place a strong support team during the maiden flight" in terms of spares and technicians to prevent any interruption in case of an incident.
Singapore Airlines, which received the first A380 after an eighteen-month delay due to industrialization hitches, will receive its second A380 in early 2008.
