Vietnam determined to reap GDP per capita of 960 USD in 2008

Vietnam is determined to post gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of
US$960 in 2008, up from estimated US$723 in 2007, the Pioneer newspaper today
quoted Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung as saying. The country will
strive to achieve economic growth of more than 9 percent next year, compared
with the target of 8.5-9 percent, he said at a meeting on the implementation of
economic development resolutions of the National Assembly of Vietnam, the
country's top legislature, ended today. Vietnam will strive to fundamentally
fulfill its 2006-2010 socioeconomic development target right in 2008, two years
ahead schedule, Dung noted. The Vietnamese government is asking local
relevant agencies to improve the investment environment, ensure the
macro-economy's stability, increase quality of human resources, and intensify
administrative reform and anti-corruption campaign. The country is set to
record GDP growth of 8.44 percent in 2007, up from 8.17 percent in
2006.
