FDI in Vietnam up 4.5 times in 8 months

Vietnam has so far this year attracted over US$47 billion worth of foreign
direct investment (FDI), increasing 4.5 times over the same period last year,
local newspaper Youth reported today. Of the FDI, US$46.3 billion are total
registered capital of 772 newly-licensed projects, and over US$830 million are
additional capital of 210 operational projects, the newspaper quoted the Foreign
Investment Agency under the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment as
reporting. Vietnam has so far this year seen US$8 billion worth of total
realized capital of FDI projects, up nearly 43 percent against the same period
last year. In 2007, Vietnam lured FDI of US$21.3 billion, and saw realized
capital of US$8 billion.
