Japan's foreign exchange reserves declined for the first time in three
months at the end of August, the Japanese Finance Ministry said. The nation's
foreign reserves declined US$7.92 billion from a month ago to US$996.74 billion,
according to the ministry. Japan's foreign exchange reserves, the world's
second largest, consist mainly of securities and deposits denominated in foreign
currencies, International Monetary Fund reserve positions, IMF special drawing
