S. Koreas consumer confidence up in August
8/9/2008 17:44

South Korea's consumer confidence rebounded in August after falling near a record low in July, the National Statistical Office (NSO) said today.
The consumer sentiment index (CSI), posted 91.2 last month, up 6.6 point from 84.6 in July, the NSO said.
"Crude oil prices and the effect this can have on consumer prices played a key part in pushing up numbers," said Kim Young- noh, head of the NSO's statistical analysis team.
However, as the reading is still below 100, the NSO said that those who have negative outlook about the South Korean economy outnumber those with an optimistic view.
The CSI showed an increase across all wage and age groups, with monthly earning over 4 million won (US$3,640) and those in their 20s being most optimistic about the future economy.
