Tokyo stocks close nearly 1 pct higher

Tokyo stocks closed higher today, with Nikkei index up 0.93
percent.
The Nikkei Stock Average rose 112.26 points to 12,214.76 from
yesterday.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo
Stock Exchange gained 14.48 points, or 1.25 percent, to 1, 177.20.
Trading
volume on the main section came to 2,594.30 million shares, up from yesterday's
1,948.11 million.
On the First Section, advancing issues outnumbered
declining ones 1,205 to 434, with 81 others remaining unchanged.
The TSE's
Second Section index increased 9.82 points, or 0.40 percent, to 2,479.98 on a
volume of 59.86 million shares.
On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the
near-term December Nikkei 225 index futures contract advanced 100 points to
12,170.
