Australian PM says no time limit for finance crisis
19/9/2008 16:45
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said in Canberra today that the
global economy was in a rough time and there was no time limit for the fallout
from the global financial crisis. "There are real problems across the global
financial markets now, we all know that," Rudd told reporters in Canberra, and
said nobody can put a time limit on the financial crisis. He said he had been
referring to comments by International Monetary Fund head Dominique Strauss-Kahn
"who pointed to a recovery of sorts in 2009". The global economy would still
be in for a rough time for the rest of the year, while 2009 was an "open
question", Rudd said. "But in Australia we must focus equally and emphasise
equally the underlying strengths of this economy and the elements of that
strength as well," he said.
