Shanghai still had a steadily growing economy despite pressures from the
global financial crisis, Mayor Han Zheng told a meeting with 58 consuls general
and officials in the city yesterday.
Han said that economic data from the
first nine months of this year showed that Shanghai still had "a smoothly
developing economy."
It is estimated Shanghai's Gross Domestic Product
will increase by about 10 percent in the first three quarters, compared with the
same period last year.
The mayor said an exact figure would be released
this month.
GDP for the first three quarters of last year totaled 859.097
billion yuan (US$125.74 billion).
Shanghai's GDP increased by 10.3 per
cent in the first six months of this year.
The Consumer Price Index for
the nine-month period showed inflation had slowed from the 7.1 percent through
June this year, Han said. The official figures are also imminent.
