South Korea's jobless rate remained at 3 percent in October, unchanged
from a month ago, a report by the National Statistical Office (NSO) showed
today. However, the job creation fell to a 44-month low reflecting companies'
reluctance to hire workers amid gloomy economic outlooks, according to the
report. The economy generated 97,000 new jobs last month from a year earlier,
down from 112,000 in September, it showed. It was the lowest level of growth
since February 2005 when 80, 000 companies hired 80,000 new employees. The
NSO attributed the slumping job market to the overall deteriorating economic
conditions both at home and abroad.
