Vietnam has posted an export turnover of US$58.5 billion in the first 11
months of 2008, far from the targeted US$65 billion and a 34 percent increase
over the same period last year, the local newspaper People's Army reported
today, citing the source with the Ministry of Planning and Investment
(MPI). In November alone, the national export turnover stood at US$4.8
billion, a sharp fall in compared to the October's figure of US$5.044 billion,
said MPI. Among well-earned currency export items for Vietnam, garments and
textiles rose 19 percent to US$8.4 billion, footwear increased 18.3 percent to
US$4.2 billion, wood-based products up 20 percent to US$2.5 billion and
electronics, computers and spare parts up 30 percent to US$2.5 billion, said
MPI. However, the earnings from crude oil down US$505 million due to falling
prices in global markets. Rice export turnover fell to US$130 million, seafood
export turnover fell to US$460 million, coal export brought home only US$100
million, said MPI. Import turnover in the first 11 months was estimated at
