Chinese shares close slightly higher in morning session

Chinese share prices climbed by a slightly 0.1 percent in the morning
session today, despite a Wall Street plunge overnight. The benchmark Shanghai
Composite Index was up 1 point, or 0.1 percent, from the previous close to end
the morning session at 1,896 points. The Shenzhen Component Index finished at
6,851 points, up 87 points, or 1.29 percent. A preliminary meeting for the
Central Economic Work Conference has said the government would strive for a
8-percent growth in 2009.
