Chinese communications equipment manufacturer Huawei will reassess its
2009 investment goals in Brazil and hopes to continue its good performance in
the country, a senior company official said yesterday. "So far operators say
they will keep the investment to see it grow in 2009, as there are new prospects
for business," said Marcelo Motta, director of marketing and products of Huawei
Brazil. The Chinese company will complete its 10th year in the Brazilian
market in 2009, and has seen profits triple between 2006 and 2008. According
to the company, its profits surpassed US$300 million in 2006, which doubled to
US$600 million the next year. The expectation of profits for this year is growth
of about 70 percent. The company has already sold about 1 million 3G modems
for notebooks in Brazil. Motta estimated that another 3 million 3G modems would
be sold for 2009.
