Brazil's accumulated primary surplus increases sharply: study

Brazil registered an accumulated primary surplus of 91.5 billion reais
(US$38.43 billion) in the first 11 months this year, 38.9 percent up from the
same period last year, announced the government yesterday. According to a
monthly study released by the Brazilian National Treasury Department, the amount
of the surplus represents 3.45 percent of the estimated Brazilian GDP during the
period. The investment the country attracted during the period reached 22.9
billion reais (US$9.62 billion), up 45 percent from the same period last
year. Total revenues amounted to 41 billion reais (US$17.22 billion) in
November, down from October's 55.6 billion reais (US$23.35 billion), according
to the study. It also noted that the country's total expenditures in November
reached 45.3 billion reais (US$19.03 billion), higher than the previous month's
40.7 billion reais (US$17.09 billion).
