Neighbor gets place in lights

Shanghai Daily News

Neighbors Jiangyin City and Jingjiang City are on opposite sides of the Yangtze River.
And until recently they were on opposite sides of the development divide.
The difference was especially evident at night, with Jiangyin brightly lit along the Jiangyin Economic Development Zone and Jingjiang in darkness.
All that changed in 2002 with the establishment of Jingjiang Park, an industrial land on the northern side of the river.
The park provides Jingjiang City a precious opportunity to catch up with its southern neighbor and offers Jiangyin City more space to continue its development.
The park has attracted several enterprises, including Jiangsu Zhongran Oil Storage and Transportation Co Ltd, Jiangsu New Yangzi Ship Building Co Ltd and Jiangsu Zhongxin Changbo Ship Building Co Ltd.
Companies have spent a large sum of money in the park and many plan to enlarge their business in future.
The investment of Jiangsu New Yangzi Ship Building Co Ltd has surpassed US$100 million, the biggest single investment in the park.
The company will begin operations in three years.
At the same time, Jiangsu Zhongran Oil Storage and Transportation Co Ltd, which began operations in the park at the end of last month, has signed a contract for the second phase of its oil depot's construction.
That work is expected to finish in 2008.
In the first three months this year, contracted foreign investment reached US$142 million.
