Cloverleaf reduces drive time to port

Shanghai Daily news

A highway cloverleaf conjunction in the city's southern suburbs went into use last night, potentially reducing the time needed to drive from downtown to the Yangshan Deep-water Port by 30 minutes, road administration officials said yesterday.
The cloverleaf, which connects the A30 (or Southern Ring) Expressway with the A4 Expressway linking Minhang, Fengxian and Jinshan districts, is key to the development of the deep-water port.
"The conjunction will not only facilitate container transport but also the movement of people between Shanghai and Zhejiang Province," said Dong Hui of the city's Road Administrative Office.
Without the cloverleaf, vehicles have to use ground roads to transfer between the two expressways, which takes around 30 minutes, she said.
The cloverleaf is a part of the under-construction southern section of the A30 Expressway - a 27.3-kilometer stretch that connects Jinshan and Fengxian districts. After two years of construction, the section will open to public by the end of this year to facilitate traffic between Shanghai and Zhejiang Province.
The Suburban Ring Road - the most exterior of the city's four ring roads with its total distance of 200 kilometers - will also be completed this year.
