Jiangyin Port Logistics Park, sub-zone of the state-level Jiangyin Economic
Development Zone, is one of the ten key logistics parks planned in Jiangsu
Province.
Relying on the preferential policies and its proximity to
Jiangyin's port facilities, the park is one of the regional logistics centers
with the function of warehousing, transportation, processing, packing,
information service, consulting, finance and commerce services, as well as
port-related processing industries.
The park serves as a platform in the
lower part of the Yangtze River Delta providing access to the international
logistics systems and has lead to the formation of the Yangtze Delta regional
logistic system.
Since logistics businesses are tightly connected with the
manufacturing industry, the park aims to become the logistics base for both
Jiangyin and the surrounding international manufacturing industry.
Covering
an area of 6.2 square kilometers, the park is divided into two parts, A and B,
in which part A will be equipped with three trade markets with different
functions. The total sales of the three trade markets hit 13 billion yuan
(US$1.6 billion) in 2004.
The Port Logistics Park Trade Center, also known as
the East Zone, is home to more than 200 companies, dealing mostly in the
business of steel by utilizing the public berth, the 400-million-square-meter
warehouse and processing equipment.
Another trade center, or Port Zone, is
home to some 100 companies, dealing in general and bulk cargo by using eight
berths for vessels of more than 10,000 tons and auxiliary facilities for
storing, stacking and repairing.
The third market within part A is Jiangsu
East China Oil and Chemical Trade Center. So far, more than 60 companies dealing
in oil and chemicals have relocated to this area.
