A group of postgraduate students will attend a high profile job fair this
weekend in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, by courtesy of a government
subsidy. Invited by Ningbo's government, nearly 1,000 postgraduate students
from 10 universities - including Fudan and Jiao Tong - will attend the city's
sixth senior professional recruitment fair. Each student will be provided a
500 yuan (US$60) allowance for train tickets and two-nights accommodation in
Ningbo. "We want to attract competent professionals to work in Ningbo and the
government allowance is an effective way to bring more senior professionals to
us," said Chen Ye, an official with the Ningbo Personnel Bureau's development
division. More than 5,000 postgraduate students from across the country have
been invited to attend the job fair. The event has a budget of 3 million
yuan. But the allowance will only be distributed to invited students via
universities. People without an invitation are also welcomed to attend the fair,
Chen said. The job fair with free travel expenses has proven popular among
postgraduates, said Shen Yanbing, a job placement official with Jiao Tong
University.
