Cold and wet start to holiday

Residents and tourists to Shanghai have been advised to dress warmly for the start of the weeklong National Day holiday, with a sharp drop in the temperature forecast.
A strong cold air mass from the northwest is expected to hit the city on October 1 and last at least three days, seeing the mercury fall by up to 9 degrees Celsius to a chilly 14, with even colder temperatures in the suburbs, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
Rain and strong winds of 50 to 61 kilometers per hour will also lash the city. Winds will be even stronger at the mouth of the Yangtze River.
On october 1, the first day of the holiday, the temperature will be between 21 and 26 degrees with steady rain predicted.
Showers will continue on October 2 in parts of the city. The temperature will fall to 20 degrees, with a low of 16.
It will be even colder on October 3, with the temperature in the morning forecast to be 14 degrees, with a high of 21.
It is too early for the forecast for the rest of the holiday.
