Jiangyin signs 31 projects

Jiangyin City signed contracts for 31 new projects with foreign companies
valued at US$1.7 billion during its annual Symposium On Foreign Economic
Cooperation. The projects, agreed to on Monday, are in the steel, DVD and
integrated circuit industries. In the first half of the year, the Jiangsu
Province city has attracted US$810 million in contracted foreign
investment. Firms from South Korea, Europe and the United States as well as
China's Taiwan and Hong Kong have invested in the city. Owens Corning and
Kawasho Corporation also agreed to invest in the city. Jiangyin's advantages
include its convenient traffic facilities and investment environment. Last
year, the city spent 680 million yuan (US$81.93 million) on roads and 3.81
billion yuan on infrastructure. Gross domestic product in the city reached
50.80 billion yuan in 2003, registering a growth of 21.10 percent year on year.
