More local residents who are fed up with eating the Lunar New Year's Eve
dinner at home or at a local restaurant travel outside the city to enjoy the
family reunion dinner. Shanghai classics Travel Service designed special
three-day package tours to Hengdian, Zhejiang Province, which covers sightseeing
to one of the country's most magnificent TV and movie shooting bases in
Hengdian, as well as Lunar New Year's Eve dinner - which is known as nianyefan
in Chinese. "Each year on the Lunar New Year's Eve, local restaurants are
crowded with families having nianyefan, and the dishes are always the same,"
said a salesman with the company. "So we decided to provide something
extraordinary." Instead of the 10 cold dishes, 10 heated dishes, folk
desserts and fruits, travelers to Hengdian will sit beside a fire and dine on
wild fowl and unpolluted wild herbs. They will drink wines brewed by local
farmers, and enjoy folk singing and dancing performances unique to the water
village, he said. So far, about 100 people have signed up for the tour, which
costs about 600 yuan (US$72) per person. Most of the clients are families and
lovers, the salesman said, adding that among them there are seven
foreigners. Similarly, Shanghai Haixin Travel Company is offering a chance to
enjoy nianyefan in Ningbo, Zhejiang. "It will be a feast full of fresh
seafood," said a saleswoman with the agency.
