Zubin Mehta, the world famous conductor, will conduct a concert with the
Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra at the Great Hall of the People on New Year's
Eve.
The concert will start with "Olympic Fanfare" and include performances of
Anton Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World," Johann Strauss II's "Where
lemon trees bloom" and Edward Strauss's "Ohne Bremse Polka schnell Op. 238,"
according to the concert organizer at a press conference in Beijng yesterday.
To add more Chinese flavor, the musicians will also perform "Ode to the Red
Flag," the symphony written by Chinese composer Lv Qiming.
The concert is the orchestra's last date in their China tour, and follows
concerts at Shenzhen and Shanghai.
The conductor, born in Mumbai, India in 1936, has been the music director of
the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra since 1969 and has conducted four New Year
Concerts Vienna including the latest one in Jan. 1 2007. He has been to China on
six previous occasions.
