Welsh singer Duffy stormed to the top of both the UK singles and album charts
at the weekend, according to British media reports yesterday.
The singer's album "Rockferry" entered the UK album chart at NO.1 with its
sales of 180,000 copies, making it the fastest selling album of the year.
Meanwhile, her single " Mercy" has topped the charts for a fourth week running.
"With Adele, Amy MacDonald and Scouting For Girls, Duffy's album means that
four of the biggest selling albums so far this year are debuts from UK artists,"
said Martin Talbot, the managing director of The Official UK Charts Company.
"It seems that 2008 is already shaping up to be a strong year for British
talent," Talbot said in a statement.
The "Deluxe Edition" of Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" slips to NO.2 on the
album chart, while Nickelback's "All The Right Reasons" climbs from the sixth to
the third.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds score the second-highest new entry of the week,
with their "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!" album bowing at NO.4.
