Disney to release five films through Imax theaters
20/11/2008 9:40

US entertainment giant Walt Disney Co. said yesterday it has reached a deal with Canada's Imax Corp. to bring five Disney films to Imax's ultra-big screen theaters.

Under the deal, the first Disney film to be displayed through the Imax system, which has far greater size and resolution than conventional film projectors, will be "A Christmas Carol," an adaptation of the Charles Dickens story.

The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis and Stars Jim Carrey, is expected to be released in November 2009. It is one of several planned 3D feature films that Disney will deliver to Imax theaters around the world.

Imax, which has been in an effort to increasing its market presence, was in the spotlight this summer with the success of its screenings of Warner Bros.' blockbuster "The Dark Knight."

The latest Batman film, which has grossed nearly US$1 billion worldwide since its release in July, was partially filmed using a special Imax camera.

Hollywood's other popular films have also been successful on Imax screens, including "Spider-Man," "Superman Returns," "Transformers" and those of the "Harry Potter" series.
