Comedy "Four Christmases" won the Thanksgiving holiday weekend box office
crown with an estimated US$46.7 million in North America, Los Angeles-based
industry analysis firm Media By Numbers reported yesterday.
The film starring Vince Vaughn and Oscar-winning Reese Witherspoon from
Warner Bros. beat out a strong second week showing from the teen-hot vampire
romance "Twilight" with the third-best Thanksgiving weekend opening performance
ever in Hollywood history.
Summit Entertainment's "Twilight" last week's leader, is on its way to
franchise status with a massive US$119.7 million take over two weeks, including
US39.6 million over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Disney canine comedy "Bolt" had a major comeback, and is expected to see
US$36 million in its second weekend of exhibition. The cartoon was in the second
spot over the final three days of the weekend, and is on track to sell US$66.9
million worth of tickets in the United States and Canada.
Despite those cheery numbers, overall movie receipts are down 4 percent so
far this year after Hollywood saw record box office revenues last
year.
