The 10th Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest), opening from
December 5 to 9, closed yesterday.
"This year's JiFFest is attended by producers from 25 countries and regions
including China's Hong Kong, India and the United States," the JiFFest Director
Lalu Roisamri told Xinhua yesterday.
According to Lalu, Indonesian movie goers have been favoring the films from
Hong Kong, the United States and India. JiFFest expected that the public will
gradually switch to films produced by the South East Asian countries such as
Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand.
Lalu said that Indonesian government canceled the Asia Pacific Film Festival
(APFF), but JiFFest is different from APFF. "There is no relationship though
both of JiFFest and APFF are related to Indonesian film industry," he said.
JiFFest was established in 1999, and the 10th festival presented 138 films
from 25 participating countries and regions. JiFFest was supported by the
Indonesian Tourism and Culture Ministry, the Jakarta Provincial Government, the
Ford Foundation and around 70 government institutions and private
companies.
