Experts from the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO) will come to Angola to help the government identify
historical monuments and sites as possible world heritage, a high-ranking
Angolan official said in Luanda yesterday. Angolan Culture Minister
Boaventura Cardoso told reporters that the UNESCO experts "will arrive in the
country between July and August to help Angola draft a list of historical
monuments and sites in the country, which can eventually be considered world
heritage." He added that his ministry "has recently done a draft on this
subject already, but it has to be updated." The list includes the Tundavala
Mountains in the southern Huila Province and the Cangandala Reserve Park in the
north-central Malanje Province, according to the minister. "The list will be
submitted to a UNESCO specialized committee that will assess these sites and
monuments," he said.
