Taiwan folk opera floods experience
20/6/2007 9:54

The Taiwan folk opera "White Snake" was staged in Taipei County on Monday night, to celebrate China's traditional Duanwu, or Dragon Boat Festival.

As the play's most important scene entitled "The Flood of Jinshan Temple" took place, some 400 tonnes of water was poured upon the 100,000 attendees from fire fighting trucks, causing a very "live" flood scene. The fire bureau of Taipei County became the "best supporting actors" of the night.

According to chinataiwan.org., besides local residents, many big name politicians were also in attendance at the play, such as Taiwan leader Annette Lu, Chairman of KMT, Ma Ying-Jeou and Governor of Taiepei County Chou Hsi-Wei.

Since the play's promoters pre-announced the "flooding" before the show, many audience members were well-prepared with raincoats or umbrellas at hand.

Quick-minded local peddlers made a good profit out of selling wet-weather gear that night.
