A modern love story, "The Longest Night in Shanghai", starring Chinese
mainland actress Vicky Zhao and Japanese heartthrob Masahiro Motoki, premiered
in Beijing on Wednesday.
Cast members present at the premiere included leading actress Vicky Zhao,
Hong Kong actor Sam Lee, who plays a funny Chinese-Japanese interpreter in the
film, and Taiwan actor Dylan Guo Pinchao, who takes the role of a car repairman
admired by Vicky Zhao.
The film is about the encounter of a Japanese hair designer and a Chinese
woman taxi driver in the modern metropolis of Shanghai. Longing for a break from
the daily routine, they spend a special night together in the modern city.
Guo Pinchao described the role of Vicky Zhao as that of a uniquely shy girl.
In the film, the girl would purposely break her taxi in order to go and meet
with the repairman of her dreams.
At the premiere, real taxi was placed on stage. Cast members pressed the
button on the car together. Like all taxis in China, it emitted a recording -
saying: "Welcome aboard 'The Longest Night in Shanghai' taxi. Now, let's go to
the cinema!"
The film is scheduled for a public release on June 26.
