Over 20 kg of Chinese coins made in the 8th or 9th century in China's Tang
dynasty have been found in central Vietnam, local newspaper Saigon Liberation
reported today. A local farmer named Nguyen Duc Dung yesterday dug out a jar
containing the copper coins in a rice field in Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh
province. One side of the coins has four Chinese characters, and the other side
is plain. The coins are rare and valuable, said Tran Anh Tuan, director of
the Quang Binh Museum, noting that the coins appeared in Vietnam when the Tang
dynasty prospered most.
