Romanian film "4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days" was awarded the European Film
2007, while its Romanian director Cristian Mungiu won the European Director 2007
in the 20th European Film Awards on Saturday.
The film, which depicts a story of two female students seeking illegal
abortion in Romania, also won the Golden Palm award at the Cannes Film Festival
in November, for which director Mungiu was awarded the Romanian Star, the top
national honor of the country.
Helen Mirren, the 61-year-old actress starring in British film "The Queen,"
took the best actress award, while Israeli actor Sasson Gabai won best actor for
his work in "The Band's Visit."
Other winners of the Awards included French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, who
was honored with a lifetime achievement award, and German director Fatih Akin,
who secured the best screenplay award for "The Edge of Heaven."
