Alex Trebek, the long-time host of US television quiz show "Jeopardy!" was
hospitalized after a minor heart attack, media reported today.
A "Jeopardy!" spokeswoman said Trebek, 67, had the heart attack Monday night
at his home in the Los Angeles area but did not disclose any further details.
A post on the official "Jeopardy!" website said Trebek was "resting
comfortably in a Los Angeles hospital, and he will be back in the studio for the
next scheduled tapings in January."
"Jeopardy!," a general knowledge quiz, is one of the longest running game
shows on U.S. television and regularly places No. 1 in ratings among its rivals.
It reaches nearly 39 million viewers a week and airs in over 99 percent of the
United States.
The Canadian-born Trebek has been its host since 1984. Prior to becoming
"Jeopardy!" host, he served as emcee for a number of game shows, including "High
Rollers," "The Wizard of Odds" and "Battlestars."
