Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan said she was not intoxicated before a 2005
car crash near Beverly Hills, according to US media reports yesterday.
The 21-year-old actress was sued by Raymundo Ortega for negligence over the
accident, in which Lahan's Mercedes-Benz hit a van and injured him.
The busboy Ortega sought at least US$200,000 in damages from Lohan and the
restaurant, The Ivy, where the underaged actress was served alcohol before the
crash.
But in a Dec. 15 declaration, Lohan insisted, "I did not consume an alcoholic
beverage or any type of medication or drug" either before or during her
restaurant visit.
Also, the restaurant's waiter Adam Novicki, who served the "Mean Girls" star,
said that she did not order alcohol.
Alonzo Howell, a Los Angeles police officer who was providing security for
The Ivy that day, also said he didn't see Lohan drinking.
Lohan counter-sued Ortega in October, alleging Ortega was at fault in the
crash for making an illegal U-turn in front of Lohan's car.
A hearing on the motion by the Ivy's lawyers to have the restaurant dismissed
as a defendant is scheduled for March 21.
Lohan served 84 minutes in jail last month after pleading guilty to
misdemeanor drunken driving and cocaine charges unrelated to the 2005
crash.
