Thousands of original recordings of the 1970s music have disappeared from
the archives of the former Jamaica Broadcasting Corp. (JBC), reports reaching
Havana said yesterday.
Earlier this week, workers at the newly formed Public Broadcasting Corp. of
Jamaica found that a massive collection of vinyl records and compact discs were
missing from the old JBC building, Jamaican Information Minister Olivia Grange
said.
They had planned to make their first programs with the valuable recordings,
she added.
Grange said the possible theft of the recordings of Jamaica's leading
musicians, including reggae greats Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, is a blow to the
island nation's history.
