Cairo International Film Festival for Children opens

The 18th Cairo International Film Festival For Children opened in Cairo
yesterday night with a grand ceremony and wonderful European circus show at
Cairo Opera House. Some 100 films from 21 countries participated in the film
festival with the opening film of France's animated feature film Asterix et le
Vikings. The participating films include two Chinese films, "The Big Fighting
Between Sun Wu Kong and God Er Lang" and "A Girl Thirteen ". Chinese famous
film director Xie Fei heads the 9-member International Jury Long and Short
Feature Films. The 70 children jury members out of the total 100 jury members
include two Chinese children jury members for Animation and TV programs. With
the aim to reward films and programs devoted to the problems of the world's
children and youth, the annual festival honored a number of artists who have
made memorable contributions to the genre at the inauguration
ceremony. Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouq Abdel-Aziz Hosni attended the
ceremony with hundreds of visitors, film stars and foreign officials. The
festival will end on March 13 with the awarding ceremony of prizes of Golden
Cairo, Silver Cairo and Bronze Cairo.
