Scandal-hit commentator back to screen
28/6/2008 11:34

The famous CCTV sports commentator Zhang Bin disappeared from public life after his cheated-on wife made a public outcry during a large 2008 Beijing Olympic Channel event, but he was called back as a TV host on Thursday.

The Chinese website Sina reports, Zhang appeared at a special evening program for the ongoing 2008 UEFA European Football Championship.

During the program, Zhang and his guests reviewed the match between Germany and Turkey and talked with the field reporters. Although he hadn't participated in a sports program for 6 months, Zhang seemed composed and smooth and smiled throughout the broadcast.

The former anchorman for the program was Liu Jianhong, who has been weighed down with work since fellow anchor Huang Jianxiang took leave and Zhang's disappearance, especially with the kickoff of Euro 2008.

On December 28, 2007, Zhang Bin's wife Hu Ziwei, a former program host at Beijing TV, told the world during CCTV's Olympic Channel launching ceremony that her husband had a secret affair.

Rumors proliferated about the scandal, including one rumor indicating that Zhang had resigned from CCTV. But Zhang's Thursday comeback puts the false information to rest, according to the report.

The report also says that Zhang had resumed relations with his heartbroken wife a few days ago.
