Broadway's Hairspray debuts in Beijing
27/7/2008 12:08
Grammy-winning Broadway musical Hairspray began its six-day performances at
the Beijing Exhibition Center on Friday evening.
The Broadway's big fat
musical comedy hit tells of the tale of an overweight girl from Baltimore who
sports big sprayed hair. She eventually realizes her dream of becoming a dancer
through painstaking efforts.
Some familiar names, such as Edison Chen,
Wang Xiaoya, and S.H.E, were specially prepared for the Chinese spectators. The
humorous lines kept the audience rolling in the aisles.
And at 2 p.m. on
Saturday, two hundred Olympic volunteers and nearly three hundred disabled
people were invited to watch the second show of the comedy for free. They were
among the first beneficiaries of the "Meeting in Beijing" 2008 Olympic cultural
events.
The play will end its Beijing tour on July 30.
