Zhang Yimou: Shooting film is my lifetime interest

Renowned Chinese film director Zhang Yimou, has denied rumors he will become head of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television in Beijing.

The rumor said that he will end his directing career and become a bureaucrat after successfully completing his job as director-in-chief of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.

But Zhang Yimou says he has never had any intention to engage himself in politics. He remarks that shooting films is his lifetime interest and he will dedicate himself to bringing more fantastic movies to the world, the Yangtse Evening News reported.

When asked about his future plans, Zhang said it is an improper time to reveal any details. But he did hint that his next movie is sure to follow a modern theme.

He also disclosed that he is eager to return to the movie studio and plans to start shooting at the end of the year.

Most Chinese netizens gave high praise to the long-awaited opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics Games, hailing it as "masterpiece" and "very dramatic".
