Two medical institutes will receive patients who are suspected or confirmed
of having the bird flu in Shanghai, the city¡¯s health bureau said in a statement
yesterday.
Shanghai Public Health Center will treat adults and the Children's Hospital
of Fudan University will take charge of children¡¯s cases, according to the
statement.
The two institutes are fully prepared to handle human bird flu cases,
including arranging a special group of doctors for treatment, reserving
anti-virus drugs and first-aid medical equipment.
The city¡¯s disease control and prevention center has selected 31 medical
institutes to monitor patients who have bird-flu-like symptoms, such as fever,
flu, unidentified pneumonia and unidentified respiratory illnesses.
These institutes are required to register and report mass fever cases.
Patients will be isolated in an appointed place to receive medical treatment,
the statement said.
Local entry-exit inspection and quarantine departments should transfer
patients to nearby medical institutes that have isolated wards and then report
the case to a disease control center, it said.
No new bird flu cases have been reported among residents in the city since a
migrant woman reportedly died from the disease in March.
