The Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court has rejected the lawsuit filed
by a Taiwan couple seeking 2.08 million yuan (US$302,766) in compensation for
their daughter's death.
The couple are still considering whether to
appeal. The couple's 19-month-old daughter suffocated when eating jelly produced
by the Huayuan Food Company in March 2005. The couple said there was no warning
of the danger jelly could pose to infants on the packaging. The court ruled the
product was not defective.
