Internet traders may have to apply for business licenses in the future, with Shanghai's industrial and commercial authorities planning new regulations for e-commerce, Shanghai Daily reported.

A new rule comes into effect in Beijing next month which says anyone who makes a profit from e-commerce will have to apply for a business license. Websites trading without a license will be fined.
