People covered by the Residence Medical Insurance System have until December 20 to register and pay next year's premium of between 60 yuan (US$8.76) and 480 yuan for different age groups, the local government said yesterday.

Shanghai is the first city in the nation to introduce the insurance system to cover the medical costs of the unemployed, children and those from other provinces married to local residents.
