Water plants threaten to choke upper Huangpu

The appearance of huge numbers of water hyacinths in the upper reaches of the
Huangpu River is threatening the local ecosystem.
Hyacinths have covered
about 40,000 square meters of the river in Songjiang District. The Shanghai
water administration on city appearance and environmental sanitation has cleared
more than 4,000 tons of the plant.
