Fake police try to swindle funds
13/10/2008 10:45

Shanghai Daily news

The city's public security authority has issued a public warning against swindlers pretending to be policemen and cajoling citizens to transfer money into their accounts.

Police said in one case, a swindler called residents pretending to be a telecommunication company employee, claiming the phones had problems and the residents owed fees. Police said he then transferred the call to a man pretending to be a police official who told the residents that their accounts and personal information were unsafe and he needed to transfer money to another account. All victims were over 50, police said.
