A crane collapsed at a local dock yesterday and crashed onto two freighters, seriously injuring the crane operator and damaging the vessels.

The accident happened at 1pm when the crane was moving more than 16 tons of steel from one freighter to the other at the Yixian Road dock, according to the local maritime safety administration. The administration said the maximum load of the crane was 15 tons. The wheelhouses and living chambers of both vessels were badly damaged. The crane operator, who fell with the crane about 10 meters, was in critical condition at a city hospital last night. It was the second crane collapse over the past few days.
