The Shanghai government's program of organizational restructuring has been approved by central authorities, paying the way for further streamlining of its governance, Shanghai Daily reported.

The number of departments and agencies directly subordinate to the city government will be reduced from 56 to 44, according to a news release issued by the city yesterday.
